Daniel L. Foote

Dan Foote joined the Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer in March 1998 and is now Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince, Haiti.  Most recently, Dan directed the Narcotics Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, one of the largest embassy sections worldwide.  His overseas assignments include a year as Team Leader for the interagency Provincial Reconstruction Team in Maysan province, Iraq.  Dan also served a tour as a member of the Regional Reconstruction Team in Erbil, Iraq, and was Management Counselor at Embassy Buenos Aires.  He held both the Management Officer and Political/Economic Section Chief positions at Embassy Luxembourg, and was posted to Embassy London as General Services Officer.  He served as a Vice Consul and General Services Officer at Consulate General Guadalajara, Mexico. He also worked in the State Department as a Watch Officer in the 24-hour Operations Center.  In the Department, he also served in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs as both a Post Management Officer and Assignments Officer. 

Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Columbia University, where he also lettered in football and track and field.  Prior to joining the Department of State, Dan worked as a natural gas trader/broker in the New York City area for six years and then spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Bolivia, where he managed an extensive development project overseeing the construction of water systems, improvement of schools/residences, and alternative agriculture and marketing programs. After returning to the U.S., Dan was a high school Spanish teacher and football/track & field coach.

Dan is a native of Syracuse, New York, and attended high school in the Buffalo area.  He is married to Claudia Valverde Foote of Sucre, Bolivia and they have two children.
