Concert at Sans Souci
As a Performing Arts Initiative (PAI), the U.S. Embassy invited Buyu Ambroise and the Blues in Red Band to perform in Port au Prince and in Cap-Haitian. Buyu, an internationally renowned saxophone player with over 20 years of experience, performed at concerts and music workshops for amateur musicians in Port au Prince and near Cap-Haitian. Buyu and the sextet played several combinations of traditional afro rhythms drawn from the folkloric repertoire of Haitian music and the African roots of Haitian and American jazz.
Through these programs, more than 2000 people enjoyed mélanges of the soulful harmonies. For the concert in the north, more than 1500 spectators gathered for the first time in the garden of the Sans Souci Palace in Milot, a UNESCO declared world heritage site. The activities were organized in collaboration with the Haiti Jazz Foundation, and the National Preservation Institute for National Monuments (ISPAN). This program fits into ongoing efforts at the Embassy to promote exchanges to promote mutual understanding of cultural differences and a respect for historic monuments.
