The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince is staffed with a Coast Guard Liaison Officer (CGLO). This officer is the direct representative of the Seventh Coast Guard District Commander in Miami, FL and acts an advisor to the U.S. Ambassador on maritime matters. Additional duties of the CGLO are to act as a technical advisor to the Haitian Coast Guard and to ensure all U.S. Coast Guard Missions in and around Haiti are completed. The missions of the U.S. Coast Guard include maritime homeland defense, maritime counter narcotics operations, and search and rescue operations including alien migrant interdiction.
