Getting a Medical Examination
US Immigration laws forbids, for the protection of public health and safety, the issuance of a visa to anyone who has a contagious disease such as tuberculosis, granuloma inguinale, venereal diseases (canker, syphilis, gonorrhea) or leprosy. Therefore, each immigrant visa applicant, regardless of age, requires a medical examination from one of the panel physicians designated by the consular section prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. The exam includes:
- Chest X-Ray (anyone over 15 years old)
- Wasserman or Kahn test (anyone over 14 years old)
- Vaccinations to prevent infectious, microbiology, viral or parasitical diseases if necessary
Instructions
Your medical exam must be completed at least two weeks before the interview.
Contact one of the Embassy approved physicians at one of the six medical centers in Port au Prince. The medical examination cannot be performed by the applicant’s own physician and will not be accepted. The physician will indicate which radiology facilities and laboratories are designated for the required exams or tests. The medical examination fees are at cost to the applicant: US 150.00 dollars for adults and US $90.00 for children under 15 years old. Fees are payable in US dollars or in Haitian gourdes. These payments will also include any additional exams for tuberculosis or treatment for syphilis. If further analysis, vaccines and/or consultations are necessary, additional fees may apply. You should bring all vaccination records, when available, to the physician.
Biographic Information
You must present to the physician in charge of the examination and to all laboratory technicians your passport and one id photo identical to the one you will provide for your immigrant visa application.
Note: Each immigrant visa applicant will receive a medical report. To avoid delays, do not open the envelope. On the interview date, each applicant must submit a complete file including passport and medical report.
