An Immigrant Visa allows you to travel to the United States and to become a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) or U.S. citizen. LPR status is also commonly known as having a “green card” and it is the first step on your way to becoming a citizen of the United States.
To apply for an Immigrant Visa, you usually need a petition. Information on how to file for a petition with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is available at the USCIS website. The most common immigrant visa categories are:
- Immediate Relatives of American citizens or LPRs
- Special Immigrants
For questions about immigrant visas, petitioners and applicants can contact our information call center Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, except Haitian and American holidays. An access card to use this service may be purchased at any branch of Sogexpress in Haiti. Applicants and petitioners must dial 001.509.229.5001 and provide their personal identification number to receive information on a particular case.
