Large Festival in Tabarre on March 31-- Be Prepared
March 29, 2012
On March 31, 2012 between approximately 1100 and 1900 hours (11:00 am – 7:00 pm), Haiti Broilers will hold a “Fun in the Son” religious festival at Sun Auto and Shana Field. Event organizers are expecting up to 100,000 attendees. Parking will be provided at several locations on Boulevard 15 Octobre (Tabarre Road) including the Valerio Canez parking lot across from the U.S. Embassy.
U.S. citizens are reminded that any large crowd can pose security problems. While event organizers have planned for over 350 security volunteers and have coordinated this event with the Haitian National Police (HNP) and the United Nations (UN), the potential for accidents and petty crimes (i.e., purse snatchings, thefts from vehicles, etc.) increases.
U.S. citizens should also be aware that a gathering of this size usually begins to arrive several hours before the scheduled start and can also take several hours after the event ends to clear all attendees and their vehicles from the area. U.S. citizens may be familiar with how bad traffic can back up on Boulevard 15 Octobre (Tabarre Road), Route de Freres, and the Airport Road. An event of this size may cause considerable increases in travel times due to traffic congestion.
