New Visa Fees
April 13, 2012
On April 13, 2012, the U.S. government will adjust nonimmigrant and immigrant visaprocessing fees as follows:
The U.S. government is required by law to recover the cost of processing nonimmigrant visas through the collection of visa application processing fees, also called Machine-Readable Visa (MRV) fees. The increase in demand for nonimmigrant visas, as well as new regulations requiring additional security screenings, has increased the cost of visa processing and thus increased the cost of nonimmigrant visas.
Applicants will be charged the fee in effect on the day of payment. Haitian nonimmigrant visa applicants who paid at Sogebank on or before April 11 can use that receipt to apply for a nonimmigrant visa through July 12, 2012. Applicants who pay for their visa appointment on or after April 12 will pay the new fees.
No refunds will be available for immigrant visa applicants who paid higher fees prior to the effective date of the new fees; however, these receipts are valid for the usual one year from the date of issuance.
