Immigrant Visas
MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
American immigration law forbids the issuance of a visa to anyone who has contracted a communicable disease, such as tuberculosis, inguinal rashes, venereal diseases (syphilis, hepatitis, etc.), leprosy, and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Therefore, each immigrant visa applicant must undergo a medical examination at a doctor’s office selected by the Consular Section. The medical examination includes:
- Chest x-ray (for all persons 10 years of age or older);
- Wasserman or Kahn skin reaction test (for all persons 14 years of age or older);
- Preventative vaccination against certain infectious diseases, microbes, viruses or parasites, if necessary.
INSTRUCTIONS: Contact one of the doctors listed below to complete the medical examination. Examinations done by any other doctor WILL NOT be accepted. The doctor will indicate the designated laboratories for the x-rays and the required examinations. The fees incurred must be paid by the visa applicant and should not exceed US$90.00 for adults and US$40.00 for children under 15. Present all vaccination booklets to the doctor for updates, if necessary.
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: All applicants for medical examinations must present their passport and a photograph identical to the one submitted with their visa application. Medical tests and examinations will not be conducted if an applicant cannot produce such identification.
