To promote mutual understanding between Haitians and Americans through English language instruction, and to improve the quality of English language teaching in Haiti, the Office of Public Diplomacy of the U.S. Embassy together with FOKAL and Quisqueya University organized a 5 week interuniversity English language teacher training in January and June 2012.

Two trainers from the School of International Training (SIT) travelled to Haiti and worked with 20 foreign language teachers from Quisqueya University, the Ecole Normale Superieure, and the Faculty of Applied Linguistics. The course focused on principles of effective language teaching practices and successful implementation of best practices in supporting student learning.  Fourteen (14) out of twenty (20) teachers completed the SIT program and dramatically improved their ability as teachers and leaders.  They learned how to be more effective English teachers and are now ready to share their knowledge with their colleagues and pupils.

The U.S. Embassy is happy to engage with Haitians interested in improving their professional skills and look forward to continue reaching out to promising professionals.
