January 9, 2012
On January 5, 2012, General Douglas Fraser of U.S. Southern Command visited Haiti and attended a donation ceremony in which the U.S. government provided boats, SUVs, and radios to the Direction de la Protection Civile, the Haitian government’s disaster and emergency response agency. Over the last two years, the U.S. Department of Defense has funded more than $30 million in construction projects throughout Haiti to build emergency operations centers, disaster relief warehouses, and fire stations, to strengthen Haiti’s response infrastructure.
