Videoconference on Women and Entrepreneurship

April 13, 2012
Women talking with Ambassador Merten (DOS)

Participants discussing the role of women entrepreneurs in the marketplace.

In preparation for the Summit of the Americas, which will take place on April 14-15 in Cartagena, Colombia, the embassy organized a first-ever videoconference and webchat linking audiences in Port-au-Prince, Montreal, Canada, Washington, DC, and on the web.  American entrepreneur Rahama Wright shared her experiences building a business in partnership with women in West Africa and Haitian women discussed their challenges and successes starting and running their own businesses.

This year’s Summit of the Americas is based on the theme, “Partnering for Prosperity.”  The United States looks forward to finding new and innovative ways to build on what we have accomplished so far—with a focus on increasing participation by civil society, establishing linkages among small business innovators, CEOs, and academic leaders, and working to ensure that our cooperation produces real, concrete results for all the people of the Americas, including historically marginalized populations.
