DVC on Women in Science

To commemoration of International Women History Month and the International Year of Chemistry, U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince teamed up with ARS Paris for a Digital Video Conference on Women in Science on March 23, 2011.  Over 60 young women from private and state universities in Port-au-Prince attended the discussion.  The DVC was led by scientist Dr. Monique Well who shared her love of science, pursuit of career in science, and the challenges she experienced along the way.  The students then sought guidance on career development, managing personal and professional life, and workplace discrimination.

Following the videoconference, Cultural Affairs Officer Régine René stressed the importance of increasing women involvement in the scientific world and took the opportunity to introduce the Fulbright Science and Technology Award and invite the students to enroll in the program.  IRC Director Nathalie Gardere set-up a beautiful display of books on science and technology and the achievements of women globally.
