Saint Trinity Music school has held summer music camps in Leogane and Jacmel since 1971. In order to continue the tradition, several summer music camps were organized by Saint Trinity Music School from June 29 to July 10, 2009 in Port-au-Prince and from July 12 to August 3, 2009 in the city of Leogane, approximately twenty miles from Port-au-Prince. The participants included experienced musicians and younger students, many of whom had no previous music experience. The Haitian staff from Saint Trinity Music School were joined by American music college students, teachers, and professional musicians, some of whom are former students of Saint Trinity Music School, now living in the United States. The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince supported the camp by awarding a grant which supports 100 Haitian students and the travel of ten American teachers and student volunteers from Lawrence University, Duluth, Chicago and Minnesota. During the closing ceremony of the Leogane camp, the students performed during a concert where they were applauded by parents and residents of Leogane. The camp continues the week of August 2 at Dessaix-Baptiste Music School in Jacmel, and at smaller programs in Cite Soleil, Montrouis, Les Cayes, and Christianville. http://haiti2.postcms3.iip/root/photo-gallery/embassy-supported-the-2009-summer-camps.html Fri, 07 Aug 2009 20:16:44 -0500 Obama's speech in Gana http://haiti2.postcms3.iip/root/photo-gallery/obamas-speech-in-gana.html President Obama addresses the Ghanaian Parliament in Accra, pledging assistance to nations who commit to “responsible institutions … good governance… and concrete solutions to corruption”.
