Scheduling an appointment
Adjudication of immigrant visa petitions filed by persons resident in the United States is the responsibility of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), formerly named the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). After USCIS approval, the immigrant visa petition is sent to the National Visa Center for further processing. The National Visa Center (NVC) collects immigrant visa application forms, Affidavit of Support forms, and fee payments for U.S. Consulates.
When the immigrant visa application priority date is current, all required forms and documents are submitted, and all fees are paid to the National Visa Center, the applicant will be scheduled for his/her immigrant visa interview with the consular section.
Should an individual want information on which priority dates are being processed at any particular time, s/he can call the Department of State's pre-recorded "cut-off date" announcement at (202) 663-1541.
