Warden Messages
Restriction on Caribintair
September 17, 2007
This Warden Message is being issued to alert American citizens residing in and traveling to Haiti to a new restriction on certain air travel by U.S. government employees. Due to the second forced emergency landing of Caribintair Airlines in the past month, effective immediately all U.S. government personnel, including personnel temporarily assigned to the Embassy, are prohibited from using this airline.
The Government of Haiti’s National Office of Civil Aviation (OFNAC) has grounded all national operations of Caribintair while allowing route service to/from Santo Domingo to continue. However, the U.S. government prohibition on the use of Caribintair Airlines extends to the Santo Domingo flights as well.
This prohibition applies to all employees of the U.S. government working in or traveling to Haiti, until further notice. The U.S. Embassy strongly recommends that American citizens take this information into consideration when planning their itineraries.
The Department of State reminds U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Haiti to review the current Travel Warning and remain vigilant with regard to their personal security; they are strongly advised to register either online at https://travel/ registration.state.gov/ibrs/ or with the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince. The Consular Section can be reached at (509) 223-7011, fax number (509) 9665, or e-mail address acspap@state.gov. Americans may also obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States or Canada, or 1-202-501-4444 from overseas.
